The need for stable electricity supply has become a ubiquitous outcry in Nigeria. According to US EIA, approximately 100 million people in Nigerian have no access to electricity. This is the combined population of Spain and Italy.
At present, the nation’s electricity supply stands at 4,000 MW of available power, while about 50,000 MW of electricity supply has been recommended to minimize load shedding and blackouts. Following international standards of 1 MW to 1,000 people, a fully industrialized Nigeria will need about 170,000 MW of electricity to stand as the giant it was destined to be.
